She spent much of her life in Vassar, Michigan. Her husband, John, fought in the Civil War. I have many documents in Gertrude's handwriting because she applied for many benefits due to John's death. Gertrude died at the home of her daughter, Julia (LEWIS) KENT, in Portland, Oregon in 1922. She is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Vassar, Michigan.
