You are here: Photo Albums SONSMITH / SONNENSCHMIDT Ludwick Fred Louis was the eldest son of Henry I and Minnie (MOLL) SONSMITH that lived to maturity. He was born and raised on the Sonsmith farm in Bloomfield township, Saginaw county, about 6 miles North of Frankenmuth, Michigan. As soon as Louis was old enough, he left home and worked at various farming and lumbering jobs. On September 10, 1893, Louis married Marie Jenny HOETZEL. Marie gave up teaching Kindergarten to marry. The wedding took place in Bloomfield, but the couple lived in Saginaw for a while, then moved to a farm in Spaulding township where they lived until 1926. At this time they moved to a farm near Freeland, Michigan. He and Marie were the parents of four girls: Elsie, Edna, Meta, and Marion. Louis, who had hoped for a son, sometimes remarked in a jovial mood, "Never mind! The boys will come when the girls grow up!" He was right.
In 1943 he and Marie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a picnic-party-reunion at Bliss park in Saginaw. In his last years, he and his wife moved away from the farm to a small red house near Bridgeport, Michigan. ~Written by Eleanor (DEMUN) HASTINGS, a niece of Louis, based on information told to her by her mother, Lina (SONSMITH) DEMUN, Louis's sister.
