England Eastman Kent Archangeli genealogy family history

Anchor House
Boarding House and Saloon

You are here: Photo AlbumsSONSMITHCharles • Anchor House

The Anchor House was a boarding house and saloon that was owned by Charles SONSMITH and his wife Margaret. It was located on the corner of Janes and Genessee Avenue in Saginaw, Michigan. Charles was a ship captain that sailed the Great Lakes. Apparently this is where he got the inspiration for the name of the hotel. As you can see from the close-up picture on the right, Anchor House had an actual anchor hanging from the building above the front door. Charles worked at the inn when he was not sailing and his wife Margaret ran it during shipping season.
