Teacher Dead
Funeral rites for
George M. Richards 65, of Au Gres, who died Monday, will take place
here Thursday. A retired Saginaw teacher, he taught wood shop at
South Intermediate School until retiring two years ago after 33 years
in the teaching profession. He was a past president of the Saginaw
Teachers Club, had served as chairman of the research committee of
the Michigan Education Association's classroom teachers department
and was a member of the National Education Association, the Michigan
State Teachers Club and the Michigan Industrial Education Society. He
also was a member of the Michigan Archaeological Society, had served
as troop committeeman for First Presbyterian Church's Explorer Post
2066, and institutional representative for South School's Boy Scout
Troop 13, had been boys' work secretary for the Saginaw YMCA, and was
a Saginaw Naval Reservist for eight years.
His first wife,
the former Inez M. Beckwith, died in August 1962. In 1963 he married
Mrs. Mildred Thurow. Besides his widow, he leaves two sons, George M.
Richards, Jr. of Southfield, and Thomas Richards of Saginaw; two
sisters, Mrs. Vestella Leppert and Mrs. Ethel Leppert,
both of Saginaw, and a brother, Clifford Richards
of Port Huron.

Birney Street, Saginaw, passed away Monday evening in Au Gres.
Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gugel Funeral
Home. Rev. Russell W. Durler will officiate with entombment in
Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday. |
