Carl HOETZEL unknown - about 1922 You are here: Photo Albums • HOETZEL • Carl Carl was the father of Marie (HOETZEL) SONSMITH. Marie's death certificate in the Saginaw County Courthouse states that Carl was from Germany. The knickname of "Opa" apparently was used by all of his grandchildren including Meta (SONSMITH) ROYAL who passed this on. As you can see in the photos, Carl always wore a long beard.
