England Killed In Car-Truck Collision
England's son, John Lee, 12, and his neice, Mrs. Alma Satterfield, 35, were in serious condition at St. Edwards Hospital. Neither had regained consciousness late Saturday afternoon. Driver of the truck, identified by Oklahoma Highway Patrolman Jack Larmour as Sergeant Jack T. Breedlove, of Fort Gibson, Okla., stationed at Camp Chaffee, was in the base hospital. Extent of his injuries was not known. Manslaughter charges were filed against Breedlove before Justice of the Peace William Russell at Sallisaw Saturday afternoon, Larmour said.
Larmour reported Breedlove was driving on the wrong side of the highway, "completely across the center line," when the vehicles collided. Friends said England had driven to Tulsa to pick up Mrs. Satterfield, who had flown there from Los Angeles. Her father, England's brother, Marshal England, was said to be ill at his home in Caulksville, Ark. England was to drive her to Caulksville. A friend of Mrs. Satterfield, who had flown from Los Angeles with her, had accepted an invitation to come to Fort Smith in the England car. Sequoyah County Hospital attaches identified the woman as Elma Moon, Dallas, Texas. She was given first aid treatment and released.
