#2 - I received a letter from Grandma shortly after her 100th birthday party. At the party she had met her great-great grandson Zach Eastman. In the letter she wrote that it sure was nice to meet little Jack! As we all know, her hearing wasn't very good in her later years so she probably thought his name was Jack instead of Zach! #3 - The last time I saw Grandma was in June of 1995. I had driven up to Michigan from Texas and I went over to Uncle Don's house and stayed with Grandma for a couple of hours. She told me, "I am 102 years old (with the emphasis on the 2). And that is too old (again with the emphasis on the too)!" This gives me comfort because I know she was ready to go and 5 months later she passed away. This was also the day she moved from Uncle Don's to Uncle Bob's house. As they were driving away, she said "I love you, Robyn!" and blew me a kiss. That is the last thing I ever heard her say and the last time I saw her.

#2 - Two days ago we had some leftover turkey from the Easter Sunday meal. I mixed it in with some turkey noodle soup and that was going to be our Monday night dinner. When it was hot, I called out "SOUP'S ON" with the emphasis on SOUP just like I have heard Grandma do so many times. It was another of her "things", kind of like when she whispered "toilet paper."

#2 - Another of my fondest memories is of sitting at the foot of Grandma's chair, as a young child, and having her stroke my hair. To this day, this is the most restful and affectionate thing anyone can do for me and something I love to do for my grandchildren! #3 - We also enjoyed eating popcorn at Grandma's house which we could eat carefully in the living room on sheets of newspaper to protect the carpeting! Popcorn which she grew in her garden, and we were allowed to open the back window at the head of the stairs and roll the cobs around in our hands to shuck them of the hard kernels to be popped. The window had to be open so you could blow off the papery parts of the cob!

#2 - One other thing I remember Grandma doing was a morning ritual. Whether she was with us at the cottage or we kids were staying with her for some reason, the first thing in the morning, she'd pour a little glass of orange juice for each of us and tell us it was "just for health's sake." She did that so often that we began calling orange juice "health's sake." I guess she was right, though, since she lived to be almost 103.
